Children and Worship

Parents are the best, as in, the best people to assist their children in participation in worship and teaching the importance of study with God’s Word.  First Presbyterian is committed to partnering with parents in this discipleship.  We offer these opportunities and materials

Younger children, Preschool – Kindergarten, during the 11:00 service, following the Time With Children, they are invited to room 4 for Extended Session, led by volunteers, using BibleZone curriculum from Cokesbury Publishing. 

Worship Prep classes for 1st – 2nd grade children, Following the 11:00 service Time with Children, meets in Room 5.  We will be using these basic sources, the Presbyterian Catechism, Teaching Children Worship in the Sanctuary, and Touch the Water and Taste the Bread. 

Worship Bags with Sunday School activity sheets, crayons, wrapped candies, sticker sheets, Bible puppets, and Pockets magazine.  “Pockets” is a magazine from the Upper Room Publishers.  “Pockets”, contains stories, activity sheets and Scripture to suit the season and lectionary readings.  These bags are found in the Narthex on the gorgeous holders built by Jim Kelley, Bruce Eberhard, and Cecil Cadwallader and painted by Carol Ryder.  The materials, bags, holders were all funded through Grannie’s purse, a fund supporting Children and Youth Ministry of First Pres. 

Publications:

“Splash!”  A monthly newsletter mailed to Parents with children 0 – 3 years old from Augsburg fortress Press.  “Splash!” contains age appropriate physical, mental and faith development information and ideas on building faith within your family’s life.
